FAQ

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GO GUTS' GRANOLA AND OTHER BRANDS?

Our granolas contain up to 50% to 100% nuts, seeds and kernels, while most regular granolas typically contain less than 15% of these. We make sure your daily serving of nuts is already in your breakfast.

In addition, our granolas provide between 10 and 14 different types of fiber. Unlike regular granolas, which often contain up to 70% oat flakes, the diversity of fiber in your diet has been proven to play an important role in the diversity of your gut flora, which in turn has a positive impact on your overall health. Optimizing your gut health is our top priority!

Furthermore, we are unique in the addition of additional prebiotic fibers, such as cicory fiber and psyllium fiber, which optimally support your intestinal flora, giving it an extra boost.

Our granolas are baked in olive oil at low temperature, and some of the nuts are added fresh after baking to preserve their nutritional value.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GO GUTS' FERMENTED VEGETABLES AND OTHER BRANDS?

In Belgium and the Netherlands, there are virtually no other brands offering live Fermented vegetables . Always look for these in the refrigerated section because you want "live" Fermented vegetables . The products on the regular shelves are pasteurized and lack the live probiotics that are essential for optimizing your gut health.

ARTISANAL GRANOLA

We have our own workshop and bakery in Belgium, where we produce our granolas entirely in-house. The linseed is freshly crushed and our nuts are partially hand-chopped. Moreover, the granolas are baked fresh every week!

WHAT ARE PREBIOTICS?

Prebiotics are carbohydrates that act as superfoods for our intestinal flora. It is a collective term for substances that promote the growth of specific bacterial species in the body, thus providing a health benefit. They feed our intestinal flora optimally, producing more free fatty acids that affect almost all health parameters in our body. Examples of prebiotics are beta-glucans, psyllium, acacia powder and inulin.

WHAT ARE PROBIOTICS?

Probiotics are live microorganisms found in our Fermented vegetables. They have positive health effects when taken in adequate amounts. There are numerous microorganisms present in our gastrointestinal tract, also called intestinal microbiota. These are involved in important processes in our body, such as energy management, immune system function, and gut and brain function. You can support these microorganisms by taking probiotics through your diet!

HOW LONG CAN YOU STORE FERMENTED FOODS?

The live cultures in our Fermented vegetables protect against the growth of unhealthy bacteria, allowing them to be stored for a long time. If you keep them refrigerated, they will keep for up to a year.

- Fermented vegetables such as kimchi, sauerkraut and beet have a shelf life of 4 to 6 months, sometimes up to 1 year.

- Yogurt and kefir: 1 - 2 weeks

- Kombucha: 1 - 3 months

- Miso: 1 year

Keep in mind that fermented products continue to ferment slowly in the refrigerator, which can affect the taste and texture. For the best taste and texture, it is recommended to eat them fresh. If there is mold, a dull color or a foul odor, they are expired. When in doubt, it is better to throw them away.

ARE FERMENTED FOODS THAT HAVE ALREADY BEEN COOKED AND THUS NO LONGER CONTAIN LIVE BACTERIA, SUCH AS SOURDOUGH AND TEMPEH, STILL HEALTHY?

The live cultures in sourdough digest the carbohydrates of the flour, making the final product more digestible for the gastrointestinal system. Fermentation also breaks down phytic acids in the bread, which improves the absorption of vitamins and minerals. Although the live probiotics are killed by heating, the prebiotics, such as beta-glucans, remain active.

IS PICKLED FOOD THE SAME AS FERMENTED FOOD?

No, pickling is a different process and does not produce live bacteria. Pickling involves soaking a food in an acidic liquid to produce a sour taste. This does not provide the health benefits of true fermented foods.

CAN'T I JUST TAKE A PREBIOTIC INSTEAD OF FERMENTED FOOD?

The short answer is no. Probiotics in pill form cannot be considered a substitute for fermented foods. Studies show that supplements have only a temporary effect. They can be useful in specific situations, such as during the use of antibiotics. However, fermented foods offer many more benefits on a daily basis.

Complete nutrition cannot be reduced to individual nutrients. Fermented foods contain probiotics, as well as fiber, antioxidants, lactic acids, vitamins and minerals. Science tells us that the total package produces better results than individual components. Just as a multivitamin supplement cannot compensate for a diet poor in fruits and vegetables, neither will a probiotic provide the same benefits as fermented foods. It is always better to start from the source and use food as the first strategy whenever possible.

PRICES?

Our granolas are manufactured in Belgium without concessions to quality. The granolas consist entirely (Nuts about you) or 70% (Natural dream) of nuts, which is unique but also an expensive raw material (about 20 times more expensive than oatmeal, the standard raw material in most granolas). We also use extra virgin olive oil and all raw materials are fully organic and certified. This higher raw material price results in higher product prices, but that is precisely our strength; we do not compromise on quality!

Our Fermented vegetables are also artisanally prepared with fresh organic vegetables and are not pasteurized. This means that the live bacteria that contribute to a healthy intestinal flora are still present. The fermentation process is time intensive and is carried out with great patience and expertise, which also explains the price of our products.

DIFFERENT SHAPE/WEIGHT/COLOR?

Because everything is handmade, our Fermented vegetables and granolas may vary in color, taste and texture. This is inherent in handmade products and cannot be avoided. Therefore, we do not consider this a reason for return.

MY ORDER HAS BEEN DELAYED IN TRANSIT?

Our Fermented vegetables are protected and can be stored at room temperature for extended periods of time. However, they should be kept refrigerated after receipt for a longer shelf life. If your order is delayed a few days in shipping, don't worry.

MY POT FERMENTED VEGETABLES LEAKING?

Don't worry! It is normal for our jars to sometimes leak during transport and for the lids to loosen slightly. This happens due to the ongoing fermentation of bacteria in the jars; our lids are designed to allow CO2 to escape. Because our jars are not vacuum packed, there is no seal that can be broken and the expiration date remains unchanged. If anything has leaked, rinse it and put it in the refrigerator. If the lid appears to be bulging, you can gently release pressure by opening the lid slightly and then closing it again - do this over the sink, as active jars may fizz.

---

MY POT IS BROKEN?

That's annoying! Send us an e-mail with a picture of the damage and a description of the product (if necessary), and we'll send you a replacement immediately.

---

WHAT IS THE SHELF LIFE?

Our jars and bottles can last several weeks (even months) in the refrigerator, even after opening. In general, if it looks good, smells good and tastes good, it is safe to eat. For more information, you can also check our website - www.goguts.be.

HOW MUCH SHOULD I EAT OF THE FERMENTED VEGETABLES ?

If you are new to fermented foods, start small. We recommend starting with a spoonful of vegetables. As you get used to it, you can gradually take more. With fermented foods, eating regularly and moderately is the best approach - literally the best medicine.
